If your children enjoy swimming, we would love to have them on the Swim Team. It is a great opportunity for kids (ages 4-18) to learn valuable swimming skills, while being part of a team. We have approximately 100 swimmers on the Woodhaven Swim Team each summer. We swim in the Greater Dayton Swimming Association (GDSA) League made up of 9 clubs from the Greater Dayton area. To learn more about the GDSA League, see www.gdsaswim.com website. Parent’s Meeting The date for the parents meeting is Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Woodhaven. This will be a “meet the coaches” evening. A packet with all pertinent information about the swim team will be distributed. This will also be a great opportunity to meet the coaches and learn their objectives for the team this season. If you cannot attend, the packet will be available in the pool office during regular hours. For questions, concerns, or suggestions, you can contact the Swim Committee by email at: Practice Schedule We will start each group at the time indicated below. When the swimmers arrive, they are to wait on deck behind their lanes (they will be given assigned lanes by the second week of practice) until a coach gives them instructions. Handing out of ribbon awards or coach’s talks will be done at the beginning of practice. May 31 - June 10 Practice Schedule Ages 10 & Under 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Ages 11 & Over 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Regular Morning Practice Starting Monday, June 13 Monday - Friday Ages 8 & Under 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Ages 9-12 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Ages 13-18 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. There will be several team events — pay attention to the swim team calendar for the dates of these events. Time Trials There will be one time trial this year on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 during practice time. Booster Fees The Booster Fee this year will be $35.00 per child with a $75.00 max cap per family. Make checks payable to: “Woodhaven Swim Club.” This must be paid by Tuesday, June 7, 2011 along with an accompanied yellow GDSA registration form (one for each swimmer) in order to make your child eligible to swim in the first swim meet. We also ask that you fill out a blue Absentee Form for each swimmer and turn it in to the coaches by Tuesday, June 7, 2011. Swim Suits The team suit is new this year! All swimmers will have an opportunity to be fitted for and purchase suits at our Woodhaven pool on Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Practice suits, goggles, caps and other swimming apparel will also be available. Woodhaven swim caps will also be available for purchase from a swim committee representative and from the pool office. Swim Team Picture Day Our Team Pictures will be taken on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. at Woodhaven. This will be instead of the normal practice. All swimmers come at the same time. Swim Banquet Our Swim Banquet will be on Wednesday, July 13, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at Woodhaven. This is the end of the regular season for those swimmers not continuing on with the Semi-Final and Final Championships. Working Swim Meets / Official’s Clinic Please note that swim team parents are required to work at least 4 meets. Sign up sheets will be posted at the pool at the beginning of the season. Please sign up as soon as possible or contact Kathryn Staten to offer your assistance. The team also needs more parents interested in being officials at our swim meets. This year's GDSA Official's Training Clinic will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at TBA at Woodhaven. Officials will receive worker credit for both their initial shadowing and working they do at each meet.
